Wait! Maybe I was right!
Blather, Star Wars May 21st, 2005Warning - EPISODE III spoilers
In my last entry I said I was wrong in my old prediction that Palpatine is Anakin’s father (originally I said that either Palpatine or Darth Maul is in some way). Hours after posting it, I realized: I think I was right! Here’s how; let’s return to the strong clue that Darth Sidious is Darth Plageus’ apprentice: wherein he offers Anakin the knowledge of how to prevent death. From the Darth Plageuis story we know that right along with the power of preventing death comes creating life.
I think Darth Sidious created Anakin!
I think there are more clues to this in Episode I - there is a plot hole. Darth Maul talks to Sidious about tracking someone - we are left to assume he means the Jedi. But there is never any direct clue or showing of this in the film. In the other Star Wars films the clues are stronger or blatant - in Episode II Obi-Wan tosses a tracking device onto Janga Fett’s Slave I ship, and in Episode IV Leia says directly: “They’re tracking us”. That’s an easy clue since the Millenium Falcon was right in the opponent’s camp. But Amidala’s royal ship wasn’t ever clearly in enemy hands before or during their flight from Naboo to Tatooine. The Trade Federation had only just laid seige and hadn’t executed any plans for a contingency of Amidala’s escape, or if they had, the film says nothing of it. It’s puzzled me how Darth Maul tracked them to Tatooine. I think this ambiguity was deliberate - I believe he wasn’t tracking technologically, but tracking through the Force. We know of this power because of Yoda’s comments of the shroud of the Dark Side obscuring their otherwise clairvoyance of the Sith - and also from Yoda’s comments about the necessity of dissapearing at the end of Episode III. I think Darth Maul followed after the vergence in the force and the ripples associated with that vergence contacting the Jedi. I think the probot that Maul sent hovering through the streets of Tatooine may have some facility for detecting.. ugh.. I hate using the term.. midichlorians.. though I also think it may have a facility for reading the chip embedded in Anakin for identification. It’s also clear that Darth Maul was after Anakin in the shot where he comes for him and Anakin lies on the ground in response to Qui-Gonn’s urgent order.
If Darth Sidious is a thousand years old, by the time he vies for power he’s probably got his hand in everything - he’s orchestrated everything in Episodes I-III - the entire war: he set up the trade Federation, he wrought by influence (probably mind control) power over that Federation, and also the Senate, and all of the enmity leading to the war - and more clearly in the matters with Duku (who brings to him at the end of Episode II the “good news” of war). I think Sidious also has a hand in remote systems, including chip implants in slaves. That last part there aren’t any real clues for.
Because I’m obsessed with fear of being discredited for predicting, here is the text and header of an email I sent of my predictions (obfuscating only emails) - frustratingly I couldn’t find an earlier email I know exists.

- Palpatine addresses Anakin as “Son.” Literal or figurative? I
predicted literal (or literal in some sense) long ago. We’ll see..

I believe that Darth Maul was able to determine where the Queen’s ship was after they viewed the fake message from Sio Bibble. Viewing the message was like opening up a piece of email with a virus attached, if you will.

Ah. After asking my wife about it I see. Darth Maul sent that fake message that they viewed.
That part of my argument no longer relevant, I’m left with the others - that Palpatine is probably Plagueis’ apprentice, that Palp. and/or Plag. created Anakin, that Palp. addressing Anakin as “son” in Ep. III suggests this.. and that there may be something to put together between Anakin having a trackable chip (..that problem is never resolved, I just realized) in him and Darth Maul uses droids to hunt them down - and as for Maul coming directly after young Anakin: I can’t say this is indicative of any paternalistic interest from Darth Sideous/Senator Palpatine (they would want the boy just for his apparent power), though that’s my opinion.

way over obsessed

Way lacking tact! Look at it this way. When I’ve told others my prediction they’ve glibly dismissed it, and if they now go around repeating it almost as if they predicted it themselves, I’m in a position to be a snotball, but with proof of the merit of my snot.
I’ll take credit for my prediction, thank you. If it were a trivial thing to you, why mind my obsession? Perhaps it is oh so sinful to be pent up with predictions and trivia of mere unimportant art. But that you are reading my blog, I think, indicates that art is pretty important to you - so we both have the same lonely, stupid demon of art trivia.
.. I think I would rather call myself a zealous fan.
I have predictions about Harry Potter to post..
I also have long overdue forming thoughts about the paradox of all art being awesome and awful at the same time, which is something we’ve touched on here..
